MR. GALE L. THOMPSON - February 13, 2013

I received an offer to join The Heritage Foundation. When I got to the 3rd paragraph and I read “Yet instead of admitting the failure of their policies,” I am wondering when people will realize that “their policies are not failing. Everything they do to destroy this Country is right on track. I have been listening to Congress and others say the same thing over and over..Obama don’t know what he is doing.
He knows exactly what he is doing… How are you going to be able fix the problem when you won’t admit to yourselves what the problem is???? I would appreciate a reply to this statement. Mr. Gale L. Thompson

Dear Ms. Bratton,

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to caption the event. But, here is a link with a transcript of Jim DeMint’s remarks during an event in New York last week.

Thank you for your support!

Your members at large are a great source of ideas toward solving the problem Obama’s Presidency poses. Please read Mr.Thompson’s comment on 2/13. I agree,,The first step to slove any problem is the correct determination of *What is the problem?”. Must we wait until he succeeds in destruction of the U.S.? Let’s talk about this! Please reply to this comment. R. A. Swan

Jim DeMint, you ROCK! I have been very active in the Dallas Tea Party for 4 years and have contributed several thousand dollars to Heritage. I stand behind you and Heritage. I know you will contact me and all Heritage members to let us know what we can do.

Sandra Lankford - February 15, 2013

To reach unthinking people you are going to have to use contrast – like Detroit sohools versus successful schools and you will have to do that on every subject or we will never win them over.

Gary Rivord - February 15, 2013

How can I become a Heritage Centinel?

Author Nathaniel Ward - February 15, 2013

You can find out more from our sister organization, Heritage Action.

Tom Sharkey - February 15, 2013

This was a great event that Heritage sponsored. Could you post some of the books and other materials that were referenced so that those of us out in the hinterlands may connect with them as well.
Again, many thanks for making this available.

Excellent ideas, and I like to say based on principles. That is critical. One minor item that might help the overall effort: stop using the words “Hispanic” and “African-American”. The people who represent these generalizations are not being well served by being singled out as needing special assistance to ‘make it’. It would seem to be logical that they not be singled out as it tends to focus on perceived shortcomings. Not only that, we are omitting Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Kazakhstanian, and other immigrants who seem to adjust to our American system without special assistance, and I believe they have preferred it that way. A final note, Black Americans have been over here long enough to forget their African heritage, such as it was. Those that came to this nation even as slaves came to a much better (kinder, gentler, if you will) life even as slaves, and blacks were not the only slaves in America at the time. Many were of European or East Asian descent. At this time I am off my soap box, and am returning to my humble existence as an old retired engineer and Vietnam Vet, ’68-9.

Fiscal issue: As the American people prosper, so does the Government. Income goes up so does tax revenue, income goes down so does tax revenue. Cost of living goes up equals a cut in hourly wages. Tax the “rich” equals less money for raises and benifits, an increase in the cost of doing business yields the same results.

Robert Pohl - February 15, 2013

Tis comment is about the State of the Union address.
The Progressives again out flanked the Conservatives. The iniatives inumerated ie Universal Preschool, Minimum Wage, etc. I believe, were and are specificaly offered because the Progressives know they will be opposed by Conservatives. They will use it to advance the class warfare angle. Conservatives had better get out in front of these issues.

M. Lee Gallion - February 15, 2013

I would like to respond to Mr. Gale L. Thompson in his comment that Mr. Obama “knows exactly what he is doing”. Let me first start by quoting our President’s first SOTU address when he said that he would “cut the deficit in half” during his first term. By adding $5 trillion dollars to our debt, even without considering Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security’s obligations and then tripling the deficit does not, according to my third grade math, equate to cutting the budget in half. If he knows what he is doing then he is doing exactly the wrong thing. The refrain it is still Bush’ fault is getting old. Also, the FED is funding this madness by driving savings rates to zero. Secondly, the President has cut defense spending by demanding the DOD cut spending time and time again and ignored his responsiblity to protect our embassies, like our Ambassador in Libya, even after repeated requests to reinforce the embassy. Third, he has repeatedly bailed out large companies, to the detrement of taxpayers, putting taxpayers on the hook for millions and even billions of dollars of taxpayer funds to finance these falied companies. Fourth, he has continue to crony capitalize failed companies like Solyndra and subsidize malicious unions that have destroyed industry and after industry with taxpayer dollars. Fifth, he continues to advocate failed policies of pre-school entitlements that have had little success, even according to his own HHS Department. I could go on and on about how his failed policies, like Obamacare, stupid gun registration (criminals do not register guns) and his business over-regulations and heavy taxes that are scaring businesses away from the U.S. and to other countries that have lower taxes and reduced regulations. We are in a hole and no one I speak to has confidence in our President’s ability to get us out that hole. I meet and speak with businessmen every day and they tell me they are not going to invest in America because they do not know what new executive order and new bill the President will sign that will prohibit them from making plans for the future. The problem is not because we do not have bi-partisanship in Washington, it simply boils down to doing the right thing for the American people and our President is not doing the right thing.

Earned success is better than entitled success. Everyone feels better when they earn something rather than when they are given something. Most media do not want to broadcast Heritage’s principles for success as serious ideas that we should consider because these ideas are from conservatives. The media would much rather demonize conservative values as class warfare, the constant refrain of liberals. Why should the public believe what media has constantly denigrated for decades now? The media is biased against all conservative ideas and have been ever since the Reagan Administration showed the way and succeeded in providing 3 decades of American propserity. Unfortunately, it has been rejected by institutions everywhere, despite it’s unparrelled success and has been misrepresented in the media over and over again after Reagan’s illness and subsequent death. Why would the populace believe the truth, when they have been lied to by the media over and over and over again? The constant refrain of liberals is “these are the policies that got us into this mess in the first place” is the biggest lie from hell there is. There are lies, lies and damn lies and Hitler knew which ones the populace would most easily believe. You can guess which ones our President is using and the media continually repeats.

I am very frustrated that Republicans, and today Jim DeMint, will not answer the “how will you cut spending” question. There should be a long list of areas to cut spending, or consolidate, and I believe this list should come from the Heritage Foundation. What about Rick Perry’s Departments of Energy, Education and Commerce? I work in a Christian School and take care of asbestos awareness. Why are there 3 federal agencies overseeing asbestos in schools? I need to see some concrete ideas on cutting federal spending before I can put my faith back in Republicans and before I can whole hardily support the Heritage Foundation.

David Kramer - February 15, 2013

The public does not understand the term “cut” when it comes to using it in conjunction with the “budget”. “Baseline Budgeting” MUST BE EXPLAINED AGAIN AND AGAIN to make the public know there are NO CUTS! There is only a slight decrease (small) the the spending that HAS ALREADY BEEN APPROVED!! Hammer that concept, again and again until the Public does understand.

I just finished watching Ed Fuelner and Jim DeMint’s talk.
Excellent speeches by both of them.
A comment by Ed Fuelner triggered this thought when Heritage and Freedomworks are in agreement with each other I hope they work together.

Mr. Gallion,
Mr. Thompson is correct, Obama knows exactly what he is doing. Your points regarding the results of Obama’s policies are correct but please consider what Obama does, not what he says. When we propose Obama knows what he is doing, we are not comparing results with what he has stated. We are looking at a course of action designed to accomplish an agenda and have decided that the agenda is transforming America. Transforming to what? Consider that the transformation is to a country far different than what the Founders envisioned but rather a vision of a country that is not a global leader, one that is not exceptional, one that is not imperialistic (his view), and one that is not colonialist (again, his view). Obama’s father was a self-avowed anti-colonialist and comfortable with socialistic views. On his trip to Africa, Obama, according to his own words, “connected” with his father.
